IVRs lose customers; AI answers them
Option menus were designed to save the company time, not the caller. The result is well known: people shouting "operator", drop-offs mid-menu, calls dying in voicemail. An AI phone system flips the logic - the first thing a caller hears is a simple question: "how can I help?"
From there, Clara understands intent in natural language and takes one of three paths: solves it on the spot (bookings, common questions, order status), routes to the right person with a summary of the issue, or logs the matter and schedules a callback when nobody is free. We compare the three generations of call handling in auto-attendant vs IVR vs AI receptionist.
Smart routing, not blind routing
- By topic - sales, support, billing, urgent cases, each following its own rules;
- With context - whoever takes the call also gets the summary; the caller never repeats the story;
- With a fallback - if nobody answers, Clara logs the matter and schedules a callback instead of dropping the call into voicemail;
- After hours - the system never closes: outside business hours Clara solves what she can and queues the rest for morning.
No carrier switch, no new hardware
Clara plugs into the number you already have, via call forwarding or integration with your current voice service. Capacity scales with volume - peaks are absorbed without hiring extra reception staff. Sizing is done during implementation.
